The perfect sock yarn - Yarn of the December

What makes a perfect sockyarn for you? Is it the way it flies on your needles? Or the stitch definition it gives to your pattern? Or do do you value warmth and soft feel on your toes?

I think there is opinions about sock yarns as much that there is yarn in the world.

One very popular sock yarn, and we think it is for a reason, is Regia Premium Merino Yak yarn. It is our yarn of the month this December, and as you know we want to highlight our favorite yarns in this way.

ILO’s owner Laura is known for her abbility to wear her socks off so, she values this yarn for its durability. But it has other good qualities also. I (Elina) myself love this yarn for its deep and melerated colors. Yak fiber is dark brown colored so it gives unique look to this yarn, and you can easily find nice color combos because of the dark base.

Yak is also very warm and soft fiber so it will keep your toes warm, although this is a thin sock yarn.

Have you knitted everything from your 52 Week of Socks -book? I certainly haven’t. There is a few patterns designed specially for this yarn. For example Candle Flameby Mona Schmidt or Turning Point by Zyaparova Masha are designed using this yarn.

You could easily make a beautiful everyday sweater of Regia Merino Yak, think how wonderful it would be next to skin under your winter coat. The easy and simple Flax light is perfect design for any sweater knitter. Or maybe you need to knit something for your boyfriend or husband? Then I would recommend this So Basic Sweater by Maxim Cyr.

If you want to challenge yourself and show of the beautiful colors of Merino Yak yarn, you could knit this Drops of Memory shawl by Mari Tobita from 52 Weeks of Shawls.

Anything you decide to knit I hope you have relaxing and glidy stitches.
